This piece is made using a real human medical skull specimen. It was originally acquired from Europe and traveled to the United States only recently.
Skulls are acquired legally and are perfectly legal to own everywhere in the US except Louisiana, and cannot be shipped to Tennessee or Georgia (you just have to find one within your state lines). They are usually found as retired medical specimens, previously owned by doctors, dentists, hospitals, and universities.
The inside of the skull features amethyst that appear to be growing from within. Perhaps this is what happens when our bodies are left in optimal conditions :)
Measurements of the skull itself are approximately 7 inches long x 6 inches wide x 4 inches tall. There is no lower jaw and there are no teeth present. The tooth holes appear to have been grown over with bone, suggesting that this may have been a geriatric donor.
