Ammonite Megalodon Tooth Necklace
Ammonite Megalodon Tooth Necklace
This real fossilized megalodon tooth has been electroformed in copper and repaired using the kintsugi technique. The missing pieces of the tooth have been sculpted with shiny copper, as well as an ammonite fossil, a real preserved starfish, and a small miter shell. If you look closely, you can see that the tip of one starfish foot has been replaced with a small herkimer diamond.
The megalodon was a giant shark that went extinct about 3.6 million years ago. There are different theories about estimating the shark's exact size based on its teeth, but according to Shimada's crown height equation we can estimate this specific shark to have reached about 18 feet in length.
Ammonite fossils are much older than megalodon teeth - they went extinct with the dinosaurs about 65 million years ago.
The tooth itself measures about 2 inches long, with the entire pendant measuring about 2.5 inches. This piece comes on a 20-inch chain with a 2-inch extender. If you prefer a different length (or style) of chain or leather cord, please include a note at checkout.
All copper jewelry also includes a copper care sheet as well as a jewelry polishing cloth to keep your piece looking its finest.
