The cicada is known for appearing above ground for a short time after years burrowing in the dirt. This piece is meant to outlast the summer, preserving in (faux) porcelain what time would shatter.
This piece is inspired by blue and white pottery, known by different names from many different countries, including Delft or Delftware, transferware (French), or pinyin (Chinese). It is made using a real cicada, in a glass shadowbox that measures 8x7x1.5 inches.
There is a hanger on the back for wall display, but is unable to really stand on its own on a shelf due to the design at the bottom.
