Delft Alligator
Delft Alligator
This small taxidermy alligator head has been given a new life that it could never have dreamed of, among antique china and delicate pottery. The alligator itself came from an antique collection, most likely sold after it was farmed for meat.
Everything in nature hangs in a fragile balance, represented by the delicate blue and white floral patterns. However, nature can also be vicious and unforgiving. This piece seeks to combine those two seemingly incongruous aspects to represent the duality of nature.
The entire head measures about 7 inches long. The alligator itself is estimated to have been just about 4 feet long, a juvenile of reproductive age.
It has been sealed with a protective clear coat, but is not suitable for outdoor display.
