Wishbone Necklace - Polychrome Jasper
Wishbone Necklace - Polychrome Jasper
This necklace is made using a real pheasant wishbone, collected from a farm after harvesting the animal, then carefully cleaned and sanitized. It remains intact, meaning perhaps that its wish has not yet been granted. It has been electroformed in 100% copper along with a large polychrome jasper stone, associated with comfort, security, appreciation and gratitude.
The wishbone is formed from the fusion of two collarbones and is found at the base of a bird’s sternum, or between its neck and chest. The tradition of breaking a bird’s wishbone dates back to ancient Italy, where people would pull apart chicken clavicles for good luck. These Romans believed that birds possessed divine powers. They also believed that keeping this particular bone would give them access to those powers. This idea became so popular that there weren’t enough wishbones to go around—so people started breaking them in half. The person who ended up with the bigger half of the bone would get their wish granted, while the unlucky other person would not.
This piece measures about 4 inches in length and comes on an 18-inch antiqued copper chain. If you would prefer a different length of chain or leather cord, please include a note at checkout.
All electroformed jewelry includes a copper care sheet as well as a jewelry polishing cloth to keep your piece looking its finest.
